How Can CBD Help Get You Through Lockdown 2.0?
What is the most important device for your home office?
Unfortunately, on Saturday evening, Boris addressed the nation informing us all the rumours of a second lockdown were to be true. As of Thursday the 5th November, England will be in lockdown until very early December, with rumours suggesting it could last longer than the initial period proposed. Now, there’s no denying that the first lockdown - whilst a very valid reason for it - had a detrimental effect on people’s health both physically and mentally. People who had never really experienced depression or anxiety began to suffer, and those that were already ill with said illnesses, found it increasingly difficult to get by and remain positive. It’s not just the effects of lockdown that can lead to the beginning or worsening of anxiety and depression/deterioration of mental health, there’s also the coming out of lockdown that can have adverse effects on people, in particular anxiety sufferers. We hope this article will help provide you with the right resources to help get you through the next lockdown, and come out the other side in a better place.
Struggling in Lockdown?
Are you struggling with Coronavirus-related anxiety? You’re not alone! We all struggle with stress, anxiety, and fear during these uncertain times. Remember, the feeling of uncertainty is completely normal. If you find yourself struggling, just breathe...
For many, people haven’t had this much to worry about all at once. From money worries to the fear of getting infected or losing a loved one, these are all thoughts that can have a negative effect on someone. According to a recent survey, nearly 47% of adults in the UK struggle with anxiety-related problems as a consequence of the pandemic. Moreover, 84% of people surveyed reported that they are feeling worried about the effects the virus has on their life, and 53% claim that the virus is affecting their wellbeing. Particularly, the “high levels” of anxiety were reported by those whose income fell as a consequence of the virus, including lockdown and the threat of uncertainty for the foreseeable future.
So, what can be done?
A great way to calm yourself down is to breathe with deep breathing, inhaling and exhaling for around a minute. There is also evidence to suggest CBD can help calm you further if you feel you need it. For those who have not heard of CBD, it’s a non-psychoactive derivative from the cannabis plant. It does NOT contain THC and does NOT get you high. It is completely and utterly legal... In fact, one of the many reasons people buy CBD products is to help them with their anxiety. Now, we aren’t allowed to claim CBD will/does help with this, but there are plenty of actual users who use CBD for just that.
Whilst people have been anxious and worried during lockdown and using CBD to help relieve their anxiety and insomnia, people have also been using CBD for pain relief. Scientists think of CBD products extracted from the cannabis plant or hemp flower as an effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, epilepsy, depression, anxiety and many others. However, it is essential to note that CBD is not an actual treatment that can cure these medical issues but rather a treatment that may help alleviate their symptoms.
How can CBD Help with my Anxiety?
There are several scientific studies that suggest CBD has antidepressent-like effects by impacting the brain’s natural receptors for serotonin.
In studies, CBD appears to have a positive interaction with serotonin receptors in the brain. Serotonin impacts a range of functions in the body, including a person’s emotional state and feelings of well-being or happiness. Keeping serotonin levels balanced is often a key therapy for people with depression. CBD products won’t give the “high” feeling you know that cannabis gives. Despite its provenience from the hemp or cannabis plant, CBD is the natural compound that doesn’t have psychoactive effects of any kind.
Choosing the right CBD Product for You.
When choosing the right CBD product for you, there are multiple things to consider. Such as, what you are wanting it to help with, what type of product to choose, the dosage amount, and it’s regulatory status.
It’s also worth noting that when looking for CBD products, you go for a product that contains 0% THC. By doing so, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to the product's regulatory status. The biggest factor in choosing a product suitable for you really comes down to personal preference.
CBD comes in a number of forms, including oil, capsules, topicals/cream, drinks, or vape. Obviously, each of the types has its own benefits. For example, CBD oil often has the highest concentration, whereas CBD Capsules are easy to consume when you're out and about and cream may be more effective for joint pains when applied directly.
The ideal dosage will also vary and is also a personal choice. It will depend on your weight, age, medical condition, and obviously, product type.
You can ask your doctor for advice on dosage, or you can ask us at FIKA to help calculate the ideal dosage for you. However, once you actually start using CBD products, you will be able to determine whether you should increase or decrease the dosage.
