Will Cooking with CBD get me high?
We all know that the vast majority of us are foodies at heart and those of us that can be bothered - love to cook! With the rapid uptake in popularity of CBD and its first-hand benefits from people all across the world, naturally, the two are going to be paired together before long. On one hand, you have the seasoned users that are looking for new and exciting ways to incorporate CBD into their lifestyle because they can’t get enough of it, then there are the chefs that are looking to level up their dishes by incorporating new and exciting ingredients into their meals and then there’s everyone in between. In short, CBD and cooking are not only increasing in popularity but also giving people new ways of incorporating the profound plant into their routine.
Do I have to be a chief to cook with CBD?
Cooking with CBD doesn’t have to be complicated nor does it require a CBD connoisseur or a professional chef. CBD is compatible with sweet and savoury ingredients so it can be incorporated into any recipe for any meal. Taking baking, for example, you can simply drop in half a pipette or a full pipette of CBD oil into your cake batter or cookie dough and proceed as normal. We have had a few people ask us what the best way to incorporate it is and were not expected in the kitchen but we always recommend keeping it simple. The simpler the better. Likewise, with gravy or a healthier salad dressing you can just mix the CBD oil in with your desired ingredient then you are essentially cooking with CBD oil, it’s as simple as that.
What is the best CBD oil to cook with?
As I’m sure you’re aware, you know that you can buy CBD in many different formats and especially when it comes to CBD oils, you’re spoilt for choice but not all of the choices are going to give you your desired results. As a starting point, we would definitely recommend not using our CBD recovery Cream when you’re trying to make CBD brownies as they’re probably not going to taste the best, apart from the harder to find options for ingesting CBD - oil is your best bet when it comes to cooking. The most popular options of carrier oils in the UK are Hemp Seed oil, MCT oil, Avocado oil and olive oil. These options, whilst they might all give off the same benefits when ingested via the sublingual glands, it doesn’t mean that they all taste the same… because they don’t! If you’re going to start cooking with CBD we would always recommend using CBD with an MCT carrier, why is this? Well, MCT is a flavourless carrier oil that still omits all the desired benefits but doesn’t bring with it the undesirable taste that so many of you tell us about with CBD that is made with hemp seed oil. Check out our oils on the link below.
The big question most people are asking is, will it work? Will I get the same effect as putting CBD under my tongue? In short, (we're not going to sugar coat it) and the answer is NO you won’t because the method of taking CBD sublingually is because the sublingual glands under the tongue are the place on the body that is most absorbent so you will get the most out of your CBD. BUT it won’t rule it out altogether because you are still incorporating CBD into your food and you are ingesting it.
Top tips for cooking with CBD:
- Try to avoid applying the CBD directly to heat when cooking as this can strip the CBD of all of its essential cannabinoids and terpenes which can have an adverse effect on the efficacy of the CBD and how it interacts with your endocannabinoid system. Essentially, the cannabinoids and terpenes are the important components of the plant with the potential to possess all the benefits.
- If you’re cooking with something that requires a lot of heat, try taking the mixture in the pan/bowl away from the heat, allow it to cool for a couple of minutes and then add the CBD oil to the mixture.
- Don’t alter the consistency of the sauce or food, if you’re wanting a stronger mix then we would always recommend going for something more concentrated, ie our FIKA 500gm Blueberry Oil.
- If you’re cooking with flavoured oil, always try and match your flavours up correctly. Ie things for our peppermint oil vs our blueberry oil:
- Peppermint Oil - green vegetables, curry’s, ‘fresh’ foods, fruits and fruity desserts
- Blueberry Oil - blueberry muffins, pastries, fruity desserts
Closing comments on cooking with CBD oil
We know it is something that is massively increasing in popularity and with that comes new ideas and initiatives in how it can be used and what foods work better than others and we are glad that the awareness of the plant is increasing and the benefits of the plant are being felt by the whole nation. We would always advocate the use of CBD, of course because we think and know it’s such an amazing plant but is cooking with CBD going to get you the best results? Probably not. There are now a lot of different ways to consume CBD which almost blurs the lines that much more when it comes to someone deciding how they want to take cbCBD and which is the most effective way for them. FIKA has designed a range of products that we know are tried, tested and CLINICALLY PROVEN CBD products that are the most effective way of getting your daily dose of CBD with a special side of FIKA - providing you with that release from the hustle and bustle of everyday.
Our personal favourite would have to be:
CBD-Infused Strawberry Banana Smoothie
At FIKA were always advocates for smoothies. Whether you make one for breakfast or an afternoon snack, these tasty treats are a great way to get an array of nutrients in one beverage. Plus, adding a dropper full of CBD oil to your favorite smoothie concoction is a quick and easy way to reap the benefits of CBD. Below is a recipe of our favourite smoothie, with a simple pairing of a classic duo—strawberry and banana—and an added kick of CBD.
When making this smoothie, you can really use as much CBD oil as you want. I simply use one dropper of my favorite FIKA CBD oil (typically the 500mg berry-flavored tincture) Note: We do recommend experimenting with the CBD dosage and other ingredients to find the perfect smoothie blend for your preferences.
1 cup of almond milk
1 teaspoon of honey
One full dropper of CBD oil (such as FIKA 500mg CBD)
How to Make It:
Place all ingredients inside a blender and blend until smooth.
